Creating and sustaining Independence: A worker's Role

Many of our consumers, from all walks of life, talk to us about wanting to be “independent”; but what does this mean? And how do we help them achieve this?

Allay will provide a specialised series of service provider training sessions that assist in understanding how to make the most of your time working with consumers. Across 3 webinars, we aim to provide an understanding of different intervention approaches and implementing evidence based strategies.

Sessions will be run in an interactive manner, utilising a webinar format to ensure that you are able to make the most out of your training.

Please note: The 2019 course presently aims to focus on clients aged 18 years and over.

Part One: Setting & Achieving Meaningful Goals.

Specific and achievable goals are paramount in achieving success with clients. This session will focus on how to set effective goals with your clients, monitor progress and how to best support your clients in realising their capacity.

Part Two: Implementing Behaviour Support Plans

Some clients within the mental health and disability sector display Behaviours of Concern (BOCs), which often lead to the development of Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs). This session aims to provide education on BOCs, common strategies included in BSPs, and your role in enacting these and assisting in maintaining their relevance to the client.

Part Three: Implementing Strategies

Many clients have occupational therapy involvement; however, strategies developed with the OT don’t finish when the OT leaves. This module aims to provide an overview and education on strategies commonly used by OTs, including review of relevant evidence bases in each topic.

Location: 3 x Webinar sessions, 1.5 hours each.

Dates: 3rd,10th and 17th October 2019, 9am-10:30am.
